SLC Review Board
Once an applicant becomes an SL Composer, this group of professionals thoroughly review all compositions submitted to SLC. Their review of your music is the first of three steps (text, final review) a composer must complete before they can publish their music on the SLM website.
Katherine Basi
Author, flutist, and composer Kathleen Basi became a liturgical musician in the sixth grade, when she started playing flute at her home parish. She’s been at it ever since. These days, she writes fiction, nonfiction, and music from home while acting as liturgy director and manager-in-chief of Chez Basi. She and her husband lead their church’s contemporary ensemble with their four “choir babies” in tow.
Christian Cosas
Christian Cosas has been music director at St. Dominic Savio Catholic Church in St. Louis, Missouri since 2001. His liturgical compositions have been published by World Library Publications and GIA. He is also a graphic designer and cartoonist.
Todd Mesler Jr.
Todd Mesler, Jr. (b. 1992) is an American composer, arranger, director, and educator currently residing in Missouri. He is also a composer for Simply Liturgical Music where he has over 200 published psalms, Mass settings, and hymns . His compositions have premiered in high schools, colleges, churches, and other venues throughout the United States in California, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Washington, Arizona, and Missouri and in New Zealand and Australia. While his focus lies in liturgical music, Todd composes music for film and game music and all mediums and ensembles. Mesler has worked with several YouTube channels and non-profit organizations. Mesler studied Music Composition for Film, TV, and Games at Berklee College of Music and holds a MA in Theology from Catholic Distance University.
Luke D. Rosen
Luke D. Rosen is a composer (published with OCP, WLP, and Santa Barbara), conductor, singer, pianist, and educator from Toledo, OH. Originally from Cincinnati. He has served as Director of Music Ministry at Corpus Christi University Parish (Toledo) since 2000, and Director of Choral and Liturgical Music at St. John’s Jesuit High School & Academy (Toledo) since 2004. He received his BA in Choral Music Education and his MM in Choral Conducting Performance both from Bowling Green State University.
William Gokelman
William Gokelman, Professor and Chair of the Department of Music at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, directs the Cardinal Chorale and Cardinal Singers, teaches vocal coaching, diction for singers, and collaborative piano. He has served as pianist with the San Antonio Symphony, New Jersey’s Pro Arte Chorale, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Texas Choral Directors’ Association, and the New Jersey Opera. William has been a frequent presenter for the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM), and at NPM’s 2019 national convention, the Cardinal Singers presented the concert “Sacred Choral Music in Spanish/Musica Sacra Coral en Español.” The UIW choirs have also performed in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Tobin Center. William’s compositions, published by Good For The Soul Music, GIA Publications, and OCP Publications, include works for piano, voice, choir, musical theater, and liturgy. His CD Steal Away, containing original music for piano, solo and with orchestra, made the top 100 New Age albums, and his Mass of Renewal, co-composed with David Kauffman, won first place in the 2010 NPM national competition for new Mass settings. William also serves as director of the San Antonio Police Department’s “Blue Line Choir” and is on the board of directors for the San Antonio Children’s Chorus.
Orin Johnson
Orin Johnson is Director of Music and Liturgy at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in the Shaw neighborhood of St. Louis. He has liturgical music published by WLP, GIA, and OCP, and holds degrees in music from Harvard University (BA) and Radford University (MA) and a degree in theology from Aquinas Institute (MA).
Originally from Tyler, Minnesota, Orin now lives in St. Louis with his wife Erin. In addition to J&A, he is also active with Youth Sing Praise, One Bread, One Cup, and works part time at Chaminade College Prep and Shaare Emeth in Creve Coeur, and is Assistant Director of the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus, among many various musical and ministerial roles.
Teresa Cobarrubia Yoder
Teresa Cobarrubia Yoder was born in Virginia where she pursued studies in Music Composition and Theory. She taught AP Music Theory, Chorus and Madrigals at the high school level at Walsingham Academy, Williamsburg VA and is the director of music ministries at Immaculate Conception Church, Hampton VA. Her choruses have performed internationally – including China, Vatican City, Italy, Ireland and England. She has served on boards in a number of music professional organizations and the Diocese of Richmond Liturgical Commission.
Ms. Yoder’s compositions reflect an eclectic range of musical styles and levels. She has incorporated her expansive pedagogical knowledge as a teacher and pastoral musician to compose music promoting the works of love, mercy, peace, justice and the environment. She and her husband, Gene, live in Williamsburg in their home that they built together.
